Less than two weeks after announcing it would produce a trading card set for Formula 1 racing, there’s word that it won’t be the only F1 trading card set in the works. 2020 Topps Chrome Formula 1 will release on April 23, 2021, several weeks after Formula 1 Dynasty. Reaction to the latter product seemed to be largely positive. A checklist and link to find it for sale online are at the bottom of this story.
The set is part of a new deal between Topps and F1.
2020 Topps Chrome F1 Configuration and Base Set
Similar to the baseball product that’s become a staple for the company, Topps Chrome Formula One will offer 18 packs per box, with four cards in each pack. Autographs will be seeded approximately one in every other box. Topps is promising ten parallels or short prints in every box.
The base set will consist of 200 cards. Since the roster of drivers is a lot smaller than you’ll find in MLB, the checklist will be a mix of F1 and F2 series drivers, crew members, team principals (essentially the race team’s boss/general manager if you’re not familiar with the term), cars and other subjects. There will also be subsets called Future Stars, Grand Prix Winners and Formula 1 Freshest.
Parallel versions will include:
• Refractor Parallel – 1:3 Packs
• Purple Refractor Parallel – #’d to 399
• Gold Refractor Parallel – #’d to 50
• Gold Wave Refractor Parallel: #’d to 50
• Orange Refractor Parallel – #’d to 25
• Orange Wave Refractor Parallel – #’d to 25
• Red Refractor Parallel – #’d to 5
• Red Wave Refractor Parallel – #’d to 5
• SuperFractor Parallel – #’d 1-of-1
• Printing Plates – #’d 1-of-1
Topps is also planning to create some image variations for base cards.
Inserts
Track Tags will fall 1:6 packs, showcasing top F1 and F2 Drivers “with an artistic street art flair playing into select driver nicknames on the track,” according to Topps. They, too, will have several possible parallels including:
• Gold Refractor Parallel – #’d to 50
• Gold Wave Refractor Parallel – #’d to 50
• Orange Refractor Parallel – #’d to 25
• Red Refractor Parallel – #’d to 5
• SuperFractor Parallel – #’d 1-of-1
• Printing Plates – #’d 1-of-1
Topps will dip back into its long-ago set archive for another insert set. 1954-style World on Wheels cards will fall 1:3 packs, with a design meant to mimic the old set. Parallels include:
• Gold Refractor Parallel – #’d to 50
• Gold Wave Refractor Parallel – #’d to 50
• Orange Refractor Parallel – #’d to 25
• Red Refractor Parallel – #’d to 5
• SuperFractor Parallel – #’d 1-of-1
• Printing Plates – #’d 1-of-1
Autographs
The autograph checklist will include drivers and team principals from around Formula 1 and 2. There are plenty of parallels planned here too, including:
• Green Refractor Parallel – #’d to 99
• Gold Refractor Parallel – #’d to 50
• Gold Wave Refractor Parallel – #’d to 50
• Orange Refractor Parallel – #’d to 25
• Red Refractor Parallel – #’d to 5
• SuperFractor Parallel – #’d 1-of-1
• Printing Plates – #’d 1-of-1
Boxes are available on eBay here.
