2021 Topps Chrome Platinum Anniversary Set Preview

If you’re wondering what a set of current year cards might look like on chromium stock but using the design from the 1952 Topps set…you won’t have long to wonder anymore.  On Monday, the company announced plans for a 700-card 2021 Topps Chrome Platinum Anniversary product due for release on August 25.

2021 Topps Chrome Platinum Configuration

There will be two ways to buy the new issue:  a standard hobby box with 12 four card packs and one autograph per box and a “Lite” box (less filling, but will reportedly taste great) with 16 packs per box and some exclusive parallels, but no autograph.

Hobby cases will have 12 boxes while Lite cases will carry 16.

Base Set

While you’ll need to open a lot of boxes to complete the set, it should be an interesting base set.  Topps is promising that the checklist of 700 cards will include current stars and rookies along with “players from throughout 70 years of Topps Baseball cards.”  They included a Jackie Robinson card among the preview images. Look for some “fan favorites” in addition to the usual mix of past greats, though.

There will be a boatload of parallels–more than 30 in all–including:

• Refractor Parallel: 1:4 Packs
