Sports Card Release Calendar: 4/14/21

Shop owners and online retailers are in for a busy last half of the month with a pile of new products set to arrive, with a heavy emphasis on football.

Here’s a quick overview of some of what’s currently expected, but as usual it’s subject to late adjustments by the manufacturers.

4/14

2020-21 Panini Origins Basketball

The artsy Origins brand returns with a single seven-card pack making up a hobby box.  Each contains two hits and two parallel cards.

Among the highlights are Silver and Gold Ink Rookie Autograph cards, featuring on-card signatures from the top rookies of the 2020 NBA Draft.  Origins offers Booklet content in Rookie Auto Booklet Patch and Six Star Signatures cards.

Boxes are being offered on eBay for a little under $450.

2020 Panini National Treasures Football

One of the premier products across all sports, boxes of National Treasures offer three autograph cards, three memorabilia cards, a base or insert, and a base or insert parallel.  First Off The Line boxes will have Stars & Stripes parallels.  As usual the Rookie Patch Autographs will be what everyone is after, with hard-signed signatures and cards numbered to 99 or less.

The cheapest price online for hobby boxes is around $3900.

4/16

2020-21 Panini Obsidian Soccer

The jet black look returns to the pitch with Panini featuring players from more than 45 soccer teams around the world including a bunch (Messi, Mbappe, etc. will be in the mix).  Look for four autos or memorabilia cards, plus a base card, base parallel and one insert or insert parallel card per box, on average.  The rare Colorblast inserts will be among the big ticket pulls.

Expect to pay $400-$500 per box online.

4/23

2020 Topps F1 Chrome

Delayed but now ready for the starting line, Chrome F1 will offer 18 packs per box, with four cards in each pack.  Autographs will be seeded approximately one in every other box.  Topps is promising ten parallels or short prints in every box.  The base set will be fairly comprehensive with 200 cards in all.

Hobby boxes are currently running between $675 and $700 on the low side.

2021 Bowman Baseball

Bowman once again comes in two configurations: Hobby boxes will contain 24 packs with 10 cards per pack and 12 boxes per case.  Each box promises one autograph. HTA Jumbo boxes will carry 12 packs of 32 cards with three autographs and eight boxes in each case.

Bowman Chrome Prospect Autographs will include 14 serial-numbered parallel versions this year including the 1/1 SuperFractors and 1/1 Printing Plates.
