Sports Card Release Calendar: 8/3/21- 8/17/21

Pre-season football, post-season hockey and basketball and a baseball release or two are on the way.

Here’s a quick roundup of what’s coming, what it costs and more.

2021 Panini Gold Standard Football

Housed in a box designed like a gold bar, this one offers seven cards per box with five hits along with two base or base parallels.

New in 2021 are Hallmarks and Au, autographed inserts featuring current and former players. Rare inserts this year include Opulence Rookies, Double Eagle and Liquidity.

Super Bowl Diamond Signatures will focus on players who’ve won on the biggest stage and feature real diamonds embedded along with an autograph.

There’s a First Off The Line edition in the market right now, with prices hovering between $700 and $900.

2020-21 Panini National Treasures Basketball

The most anticipated high-end hoops product each year (at least for most avid basketball collectors), 2020-21 National Treasures is all about the hits.  It’s a single ten-card pack with four autographs, four memorabilia cards, a printing plate and single base or base parallel card per box.

Boxes are sitting at $3,500-$3,700 at the moment.

2020-21 OPC Platinum Hockey

The season is over but the hockey cards are not.  OPC Platinum boxes offer 20 packs with four cards per pack.  A typical box break will yield one autograph and a variety of base cards and parallels.

The base set is 200 cards.

2020-21 Upper Deck Ice Hockey

Yes, August 11 will be a big day for hockey card collectors.  This one offers 12 packs per box with six cards per pack, printed on the acetate-style stock.

Look for 2 on-card autographs or memorabilia cards per box on average with boxes currently at around $200.

2021 Topps Allen & Ginter Baseball

A staple on the baseball card calendar for 15 years, the format for 2021 Allen & Ginter will mirror those of previous issues. A hobby box will contain 24 packs, with seven base cards and a mini card per pack.  Short-printed mini card fall in every 13 packs.

Topps is promising three hits per hobby box, with on-card autographs, relics, original buyback cards, book cards, cut signatures and rip cards all in the mix.

The size of the base set is once again 350 cards, including short prints.

There will be Hobby, Retail and Blaster boxes, which are all being sold online now.

8/13

2021 Panini Prizm Baseball

Panini uses its MLBPA license to put some Prizm baseball on the market, with its usual silver shininess.  Hobby boxes will have 12 packs with 12 cards in each pack.

Look for 3 autographs, 3 silver prizms, 4 blue prizms, 5 red prizms and 3 #’d prizms, per box, on average.

Boxes are on eBay for around $270.

Also set for release:  2021 Panini Luminaries Baseball (8/11); 2021 Panini Immaculate Collegiate Football (8/13) and 2021 Topps Pro Debut Baseball (8/13).
