Sports Card Release Calendar: 8/9/22

Here’s a roundup of sports card releases set to arrive between now and late August.

8/10

2022 Topps Series 2 Vending

Yes, you read that right. Topps is producing a product that’ll be at least somewhat similar to the old school 500-count, nothing but cards vending boxes that were produced from the 1950s-90s. They’re even using the familiar light blue coloring and old school Topps logo.

The 2022 Series 2 vendors won’t have nearly as many cards as those did. Topps is planning for smaller boxes with 165 base cards and five inserts.

Series 2 has been out for a couple of months so it’s not a new product–just a new configuration.

Boxes are on eBay for a little less than $50.

2021-22 Upper Deck Black Diamond Hockey

Each box offers an autograph or Diamond Relic card, one base Pure Black parallel numbered to 50 and three regular insert, tech and/or non-autographed Diamond Relic memorabilia card.

New this year is Band of Color with each card offering six diamond relics, each a different color: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. The vets and legends are #’d to 21 while the rookies are #’d to 22.

Boxes are on eBay for around $400.

2021-22 Panini Obsidian Basketball

Returning for a fourth consecutive year, the NBA version of Obsidian brings the dark colors back to center stage. Each seven card pack (one pack per box) will offer two autographs and two inserts and/or parallels.

Rookie Jersey Autographs and Rookie Eruption Autographs will be among the big hits.  Current stars and retired player autographs in sets such as Aurora Autographs and Galaxy Autographs.

The lowest box prices are currently hovering between $300 and $350 online.

2022 Panini Select Football

The 2022 preseason is already underway but here comes another ’21 product.

Select offers 12 packs per box and five cards per pack. Two autographs, one memorabilia card, 10 Silver Prizms, five additional Prizms and six inserts are what an average box will hold.  Zebra parallels are case hits.

There’s a 400-card base checklist which includes Base Concourse, Premier Level, Club Level and rare Field Level cards.

Packed about three per case, XRC Mystery Redemptions will feature some of the first cards of the 2022 NFL Draft picks.

Boxes are currently at around $1,400.

2022 Topps Clearly Authentic Baseball

Clearly Authentic is back with a single encased autographed card per box.  Cards are printed on acetate stock.

New this year are Generation Now Autographs, which focused on the game’s young stars.

Some Topps designs from the past will also be utilized for autographs. Our preview from earlier this year offers an overview of what to expect.

Boxes are showing up online right now for around $95.

2021-22 Upper Deck Clear Cut Hockey

Back for another year, Clear Cut offers a single signed card on acetate stock tucked inside a one touch holder.  All cards are numbered to 65 or less.

The 2003-04 Upper Deck Exquisite Basketball auto patch design returns in a new subset inside ’21-22 Clear Cut. They’ll include both rookies and veterans with 1-of-1 Gold parallel of each possible.

Expect boxes to run about $150.
